On the 25th of February 2022, the number of daily Covid-19 cases surged to over 10,000 due to the rapid spread of the virus in New Zealand, detection methods such as PCR are becoming exhausted. Following the New Zealand government’s epidemic prevention measures as well as to support and protect the Chinese students in New Zealand. Auckland University Chinese Students Association (AUCSS) purchased a batch of RATs test kits (rapid antigen test) and provided them free of charge to Chinese students in Auckland who met the application requirements.
In order to accurately provide the test kits to the students who are in urgent need, we have created an online form for the students to fill out who are applying for the RAT test kits to collect details about their contact with the virus and any suspected symptoms of Covid-19 and received 84 applications in total.
Eight directors of AUCSS set up a “Self-Test Kit Distribution Team”. They held a meeting at 10 o’clock every night to review the application information to ensure that every student who is in urgent need can receive the test kit as soon as possible.
Our application requirements:
To reduce the anxiety for students who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the AUCSS Self-Test Kit Distribution Team delivered the test kits to the students who need them as quickly as possible. The day after we received the application, we immediately divided the areas responsible for the distribution of test kits and started high-density, high-efficiency contactless distribution for nearly a week. During the peak of applications, the AUCSS team acted separately, and the test kits were distributed within two days even when the students who have applied were located all over Auckland.
Considering the incubation period and the differences in the physiology of the individual, we maintained communicational contact with the students who are close contacts (and their close contacts) and asymptomatic students through text messages every day to inquire about their health condition and provide test kits to students who meet the application requirement.
At this stage, the Covid-19 situation in New Zealand is still severe. Please follow the New Zealand government’s epidemic prevention regulations, take protective measures, improve your immunity, and reduce non-essential going out. Let’s unite against Covid-19!
